yeah, i made a note of it.
but he was a good guy, and had a smoking hot hike partner !!!

said they wanted to leave the shelter open for the throngs of campers that were sure to be overcrowding it.

That's illegal.  I'm sure you reported the violator.  I have a composite sketch available.  He could be affiliated with the NPS based on preliminary reports.  The crime artist indicated he had a moustache.
