"Howdy Guys (and Gals),
I am in Gatlinburg at the moment and have been here since Monday evening. I noticed on the local news that a group that is comprised of "victims of the Gatlinburg Fire" were meeting at a local Hotel, Marriot I…"
"John, I wasn't sure how to link to his FaceBook page so I copied and pasted this below....feel free to move or to delete if you choose, just looked interesting and sounds far too typical of their doings....."
"Interesting account sent to me apparently written by the supervior of Wildlife at Smokies. Wildlife personnel have always been just this type of professionals and always could be counted on. There were other rangers there also trying to sort out the…"
"From yet another angle, I am wondering if any of you guys are following Jerry Grub on Face Book. He has had a couple of interesting posts about the fire and the possibility that the fire that affected Gatlinburg might possibly have stemmed from a…"
"My thanks as well to you and to Myers, along with everyone that has helped or contributed to this cause in any way! Though I don't post much and have only made a minimal contribution, I believe in our cause and appreciate the effort and…"
"Makes one wonder whatever happened to the concept of a government by the people, of the people, and for the people.....reminds me a bit of a Tea Party and revolt over taxation without representation...No consideration appears to be being given to…"
"Jim and Others, the fellow was fishing a rig with two droppers under a dry, supposedly illegal? I commonly fish a dry / dropper rig myself. But this Ranger, his described attitude and conduct seems to epitomize the same power hungry and…"
"Just read an interesting post over at LRO's Fly Fishing Board under Smoky Mountain Fishing, titled "Increased Ranger Activity in GSMNP". Sounds like Gestapo tactics by one of their finest and borderline illegal except for the…"
Hey Mike, thanks for all you do in fighting the FEEASCO. I appreciate all your hard work. I was just on the Smoky Mountain Hiking Blog and saw a post of yours. At least it appears that it is yours. After staying 100's of times using the front country camping to set up my family's basecamp for backpacking I have never seen any showers in the NPS campgrounds. The only amenities they provide are sometimes a graveled platform for a tent, metal ring to contain a fire, sometimes a hook near the picnic table to hang a lantern, trash can or nearby dumpster, a bath house that only provides toilets/urinals/sinks, and a spigot nearby to draw treated water.
I just didn't want someone picking on you about the showers. At times that would be a nice feature but we have always gone to a commercial campground and paid for a shower after being in the backcountry for several days.
There are five frontcountry campgrounds that charge $14/night, Cataloochee is fixed at $20 for a tent as well as a large RV, which I always thought was unfair. Cades, Elkmont, and Smokemont start at $17 and stop at $20 or $23 for Elkmont.
Again, thanks for all your efforts to stand for what is right!
Mike, I am a bi-vocational, Part-Time Local Pastor in the United Methodist Church and have been serving the same church for ten years. What that means is I have two full time jobs...And you? I see you have the same responsibilities to a "flock", which precludes most weekend trips into the backcountry...
